Here is a little insight into how I think and why. I come from the world of professional theatrical costume design, a world that I have been a part of for at least 30 years. My design sense comes from this world and completely informs my decorative arts process. I often err on the side of extreme graphic quality to the design as most people who watch a class, including the judge, cannot see the small little tiny pieces that make "you" the shopper happy. You might find that the small intiricate designs are great and beautiful and lovely and princess like,,but really,,,walk ten feet away and ask yourself, how much of those tiny details do you see. Now walk twenty feet away, look at the jacket you are just about to shell out 2 grand for and ask yourself if the dollars spent are for you or to be noticed in the ring. Now walk fifty feet away,,and this is the average distance between you and judge. HMMMMM eye opening, isn't it. That intricately designed jacket with ten thousand appliques, small painted areas, and lines so thin that they disappear, somehow just looks like a muddy blotch on your body. Try this at home with your present showclothing and you will see,,,that the garments most likely to be "seen" on the rail are the ones that have a highly graphic quality with contrast setting the pace. Next time when you are shopping,,,,put the jacket on the rack and walk away,,,,is it still pretty?? Is all you notice the sparkle of the stones? Can you identify the colours from fifty feet away? Think about it!!!
